What Abbeyfield Ewell is About
The PURPOSE OF THE SOCIETY is to provide friendly homes where older people, who might otherwise live on their own, may each have a secure room to furnish and arrange as they wish.
Home cooked meals are taken together in the dining room served by the Housekeeper. Residents are free to use the sitting room and garden and come and go as they please in daytime. The Housekeeper, who shops and cooks, keeps a watchful eye over any changes in a Resident’s condition.
Everyone is connected to a call system so that aid can be summoned in an emergency. Entry phones are fitted in each room allowing residents to admit or exclude callers at the front door.
Maintenance of the friendly, easy atmosphere is aided by careful selection of applicants, communal meals and the House Committee volunteers who arrange special events, and befriend the Residents.
Charges for the rooms vary according to facilities; all are reasonably priced and include all meals, heating, electricity, hot water, laundry council tax, water rates and insurance for fittings but not for personal possessions. .Residents may have their own personal phone. A concessionary TV licence is currently provided.
Selection of residents is made by a committee on the basis of the application form subsequent to the interview, medical report and assurance of the support of a named relative or friend. See the bottom of the page for contact details
The Society is not a profit making organisations and is registered as a charity with the Registrar of Industrial and Provident Societies. We are affiliated to the national Abbeyfield Society. We benefit from access to a limited range of centrally supplied services but we are independent and run our own affairs
